Our school-level competition will be held in Oakhurst on Wednesday, November 30 with the top two students moving on to the Madera county competition at Yosemite High School in January 2017. County representatives will participate in the State Finals March 12-13, 2017, with the state champion advancing to the National Finals April 25-26, 2017, in Washington, DC.
Poetry Out Loud gives students an opportunity to master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage. The official anthology for Poetry Out Loud contains over 900 poems from which to choose and can be found at: http://www.poetryoutloud.org/poems-and-performance/find-poems
For an overview of the experience, click on the tab titled “The Competition” or find Poetry Out Loud on YouTube at:

If you are interested in this year’s Poetry Out Loud experience at Glacier High School, here is what you need to do before Saturday, November 5:
1. Contact Kaylene Friesen at kfriesen@wscsfamily.org with your name, grade, school site, phone number, and let her know that you are interested in Poetry Out Loud so that she can get more specific information to you.
2. Read, view, and listen to as much as you possibly can on the Poetry Out Loud site or at the YouTube channel.
3. Begin looking through the poetry anthology on the Poetry Out Loud website or in the print version if one is available and choose 2 or 3 poems to begin memorizing.
This has been a very rewarding experience for many high school students and we would love for you to be a part of it. Our contest on November 30 will begin after 2:00 and we will announce the exact time in the near future.
