plan (PLP), and can make further adjustments according to how each student is progressing in their PLP.

Personalized learning is more than just a program, but rather an educational approach which bases its success on

meeting the needs of individual students and involving their parents as a major part of their education.  Glacier takes

this approach and through it has created innovative ways to include "who" students are into their education.  One

such example of serving students individually is through the course and elective creation process.  Through this

process teachers, students, and parents are able to create either courses or electives that are suited and appropriate

for individual student needs and interests.  Take for example a sophomore who struggles with reading.  A necessary

core English Language Arts course can be developed to meet academic standards while individual testing can provide

a lexile reading range to suggest appropriate reading material for this course.  A course can be developed which

incorporates this reading material, along with the necessary grammar and writing elements from selected sources.

It is also possible for students to create entirely individual and interest driven electives based on their desires or current

pursuits.  A real case scenario can be explained through a recent graduate's personalized learning program which

included equestrian and rodeo electives.  This young man was the nation's high school "all-around cowboy" and

received a full ride scholarship to college for his rodeo achievements.  Through the elective creation process and the

credit calculator and manner worksheet (seen below), we were able to create meaningful classes which included

academic and personal learning goals.  Our goal at Glacier is to provide each student with the keys for success that fit

the locks that they need to open.  We understand that every student is different, and we are willing and able to celebrate

those differences through providing a quality educational program fit for them!

What is Personalized Learning?

Personalized learning happens when an educational plan is

developed for an individual student.  This plan includes

shaping the instructional and curricular program around how

each student needs to learn.  This process takes place through

the guidance of a teacher who takes on the roles of an advisor

and counselor.  Students and parents are able to meet at least

monthly to evaluate the success of the personalize learning
