Home schooling is what most people would think of if they heard the terminology of "parent led instruction."

This is not inaccurate as that is what home schooling is, however parent led instruction can happen outside

of the typical home schooling situation.  Glacier serves families from many different educational backgrounds

and interests.  We offer many on-site classes taught by credentialed teachers.  We have students that come from

a home school education, as well as students who have always been on a traditional comprehensive campus.

Glacier is not merely a "home school" program, although many who home school elect to use our program.

We are a public charter school which was based on the core belief that parents should be responsible for and

integrally involved within the education of their children.

The Glacier mission and philosophy sees parents as the key component for a students success.  Parents are

therefore enabled to assess, monitor, and instruct students through a personalized learning plan (PLP) developed

with their advising teachers.  Parents participate in all PLP meetings, and are given the help they need to be their

student's educational advocate at home.  Students are able to take classes in difficult subjects that need further

instruction.  Advising teachers assure that students are getting the instruction and materials they need to be successful.

Parents, teachers, and students make up an educational team that works with students on an individual basis.

We have found that when parents are not only knowledgeable about "how" their students are doing, but also "what"

their students are doing and are involved in the process, students excel.  Personalized attention, close assessment and

monitoring, and immediate remediation are possible on a daily basis.  No one advocates more for a student than their

parents, and personalized learning is all about advocacy for the individual student.
